I live and work in Columbia, South Carolina. A city of older homes and neighborhoods. Most new construction is done in the outskirts of Columbia, and in the city it is filled with remodels. The community here tends to keep the original home and update or add on. I love that families embrace the traditional design these homes give with an updated facelift.
I live in one of the older neighborhoods in Columbia, Heathwood. Heathwood is a nice size neighborhood with a mixture of architectural styles. Due to its age, the are mostly traditional architecture, but beautiful none-the-less. I do love this neighborhood and walking it everyday gives me a change to fall in love with it even more. As a designer, I am always looking at architecture for inspiration. There are many homes in my neighborhood that I absolutely adore, and Sadie Mae (my yellow lab) loves some more than others as well.
Below is a small snippet of some of the homes we both adore. You will notice most are traditional.
Sadie and I love the iron railing accent above the covered front door.
Our absolutely favorite home. Sadie loves this yard and the home as much as I do. It was hard to take a photo, but this estate is absolutely perfection from the exterior. The next two photos are shots of the entry/courtyard.
I mean, I can’t get over these gorgeous oak trees flanking the driveway!
We love this home as we round the corner. Sorry for the glare. The colors of this painted brick home is fabulous! Painted brick is a very common theme in Columbia.
This one is slightly different from the rest of the homes. This bungalow/mid-century modern is refreshing against all the traditional architecture. Sadie love to sniff this yard.
Another painted brick home. There is something about this one that gets me every time.
This one is near my home, and we love this Charleston-style home! I think it’s my husband’s favorite!
I hope you enjoyed a small walk through my neighborhood and a small look into one of Columbia’s neighborhoods. I will try to bring you more homes throughout the city where I live.
