Today I want to not post a typical design, food, or other post. I want to focus on the city where I live. Many of you have seen the devastation that has hit where I live and work, Columbia, South Carolina. I do not think we were completely ready for such insane weather and this horrific Columbia flooding. We all knew that we could and would have some bad flooding but not to the point that we received. I was fortunate enough to only have flooding in my basement, which only housed our air handler and water heater. I didn’t lose power or water like many. I do have to boil my water, but that is so minor compared to the friends and many others that have lost everything. This flood is something that Columbia has never seen before and most likely will never see again. You can never truly prepare for a flood. Water is a great thing, but can be completely devastating at the same time.
Here are some photos taken by some of my friends of Columbia.

Here are a few photos of my basement that was flooded. It is a basement/crawl space. We have been talking about finishing it, and so thankful we had not as of yet. We will eventually do so. This water is all ground water. Yes, this water came from the ground! And we are still getting water in the basement and having to sweep it into our sump pump because it has broken. Yesterday, we had three sump pumps to remove the water. It took almost the entire day to get the water out, which is crazy because seeing the amount of water being pumped out, you would think it would all be gone quickly.

I want to take the time to ask everyone that reads this, say prayers for those who have lost everything and or some things and those who have lost loved ones. This was such a tragic couple days and continues to be. I am so proud of our city for doing the best that they absolutely can. They have been remarkable. Our community is rallying and coming together like no other to help. Below are links to those who want to donate or help our community.
The State gives more info.
For those in the community, the shelters are needing water, toiletry items, clothing, etc. There are several shelters to donate these items to. Click here for the list of shelter.s
